Sastavci Falls
About This Spot
This spot will give you a view of the most spectacular set of waterfalls - Sastavci. You can also see part of Veliki slap (Big Waterfall) on your right. From the designated viewpoint the view is a bit obstructed so if you don’t mind a bit of climbing you will find clearer view about 50m to the left - follow a small trail through the bushes.
What To Shoot
Pay extreme caution if you follow the trail leading left of the designated viewpoint. It offers much better views of the waterfalls, but walking there is tricky. It is an exposed area with sharp rocks. I’ve even encountered vipers when climbing lower down on occasion!
Elevated view of the Korana river canyon with the Sastavci waterfalls. A normal lens will be the most useful here as well as a tripod and polarising filter.
The best time to photograph Sastavci is in spring when there is plenty of water. In summer the right side of the waterfalls is dry. It is also good after heavier rains. Autumn can be beautiful when in full colour, especially if you are lucky and it rains enough to cause a strong flow of water.
I find it easiest to photograph late afternoon or at sunset. The whole canyon is then in shade and the sunset colours above are sometimes spectacular.

Directions
There are two ways to get to this spot. The easiest way is to drive north from Entrance 1 towards Selište Drežniško. Here make a sharp turn left towards Plaški, Saborsko. After 3km turn left and follow the sign for Ethno houses Plitvica Selo. Park at the ruined house just above Veliki slap and find the trail leading to the viewpoint for Sastavci.
The other approach is from Veliki Slap (Big Waterfall). When standing in front of the big waterfall you will notice a path with steps leading up on your left. Take this path zig-zagging up the hill until you get to the paved road. Turn right, walk about 200m and find the trail to the Sastavci viewpoint.
