Calming Tempest
Proxy Falls Three Sisters Wilderness, Oregon Photos of Proxy Falls, south of the Columbia River Gorge along the McKenzie Pass Highway never do it justice. It looks small without any context of height and scale. This is a tortential waterfall. The amount of water falling off this several hundred foot drop kicks spray into the air for hundreds of feet. When I found this little pool of water below the falls I couldn't help but laugh. Here is a teeny little calm pool of water while the waterfall rages above. I spent a while trying to figure out the best angle and eventually loved the way the fallen tree logs framed the photo. I love the way the moss grows *everywhere* here. Arriving early meant that I could explore all the different angles of this waterfall while making sure not to slip and kill myself on the wet and mossy rocks. I didn't want to leave but after several hours the sun peaked its head above the waterfall and it was time to head to the airport to catch our flight :( Nikon D800 w/Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8: 17mm, f/9, 1.3 sec, ISO 100 3 image focus stack
