Into the Infinite Abyss
Foggy sunrise at the Golden Gate Bridge San Francisco, California "Good luck exploring the infinite abyss." -Andrew Largeman, Garden State. I couldn't help but think of one of my favorite movies when I saw this scene unfolding in front of me. Perhaps it was the music in Garden State, or my fandome of Zach Braff, or very potentially my super crush on Natalie Portman, but the movie remains one of my favorites to this day. Escaype called for low fog, which was holding true when we went to bed and when we woke up. Thus I hopped in the car, met Willie at our usual spot and drove up to Marin to try a composition we had shot many years ago but rarely come back to. When we arrived the fog had risen and the Golden Gate Bridge was gone. Jeff had challenged us to photograph a different scene than the "usual" composition. In this case it meant *NOT* photographing the Golden Gate Bridge. The fog was interesting because it just *stopped* past the bridge. This barge was sitting just outside the fog bank, as if it was debating whehter it should go into the infinite abyss. It sat there for nearly 30 minutes not budging, just on the edge of the unknown. I used the telephoto lens to isolate the barge on the wall of fog. Nikon D850 w/Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3: 150mm, f/5, 4.0, ISO 1000
