Captains Emergence
Snowy scene, Valley View Yosemite National Park, California Willie, Zack, and I made a little bit of a crazy trip to Yosemite in early December 2015. We decided to cancel a trip to Death Valley and instead head to Yosemite, leaving at midnight and arriving just in time for sunrise. We drove through a snow-storm to get into Yosemite and the storm was supposed to clear just before sunrise. Unfortunately, it didn't and all we saw was a lot of fog and a few snow covered trees that happened to be 2 feet in front of us. The storm did eventually clear and opened up to beautiful blue skies, snowy trees, and white mountains. We had gotten a bit of breakfast and noticed the storm was starting to thin out, and raced to Valley View to see what the scene looked like. With different water levels, Valley View has some beautiful snow covered boulders in the winter. Due to the recent drought, though, a number of logs, branches, trees, and other debris had gotten stuck in the shallow banks, covering the usually beautiful boulders. I had to head a bit further downstream and used this stuck tree stump as an element to help guide the viewers eye into the photo. I loved how the storm cleared enough for us to start to see El Capitan and Cathedral Peak. An hour later and all the snow melted off the trees and the scene was completely transformed yet again.
